Repositories for Special Collections

ULCC has developed and hosts repository systems to support access, management and preservation for  diverse special collections.

Between 1998 and 2010, ULCC developed and hosted the pioneering National Digital Archives of Datasets for The National Archives. This service provided accessioning, long term preservation and, where allowed, public access to born digital government datasets.

Special collections that we host, develop or support include:

  • Linnean Online, the digitised collections of the Linnean Society of London which includes digitised images of the specimen collections of Carl Linneaus that formed the basis of his classification system for plants and animals.
  • The online Digital Archive of Special Collections of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), including the Fürer-Haimendorf Photographic Archive.
  • Their Past Your Future and Home Front Recall: Multimedia archives commemorating the 50th anniversary of World War Two, for the Council of Museums, Libraries and Archives (MLA).
  • Practice-As-Research In Music Online (PRIMO): A specialist subject repository of multimedia materials for the Institute of Musical Research.
  • Digital Education Research Archive (DERA): An archive of government-sponsored publications about education, managed by the Institute of Education, University of London.
